Morley 41 Lymm 30

IN their final away game of the 2016/17 season, Lymm were always chasing the game as they were beaten by Morley.

In glorious weather, Morley were awarded a penalty try when Richard McEvoy’s attempt to stop the hosts scoring was adjudged high and he was given 10 minutes in the sin bin.

Despite being a man down, Lymm soon equalised when a series of powerful drives resulted in Ali Sutherland scoring between the posts, with Cormac Nolan converting.

Jake Ashall joined McEvoy in the dugout as Lymm were reduced to 13 and Morley soon took advantage with a converted try that gave them a lead they would not relinquish.

Will Baldwin narrowed the gap for Lymm, but another seven-point try gave the hosts further breathing space.

The returning McEvoy outpaced the Morley defence to score out wide and Nolan’s penalty on the stroke of half time reduced the deficit to just one point at the break.

After an attritional start to the second period, Morley secured a bonus point with their fourth try, but another Nolan penalty brought Lymm back to within a score.

Morley kicked two penalties of their own to keep Lymm at arm’s length and, in their haste to mount a comeback, an ambitious offload from the visitors was intercepted for the try that ultimately won the game for the hosts.

McEvoy got his second of the game to ensure a four-try bonus point for Lymm, who end their National League Three North season at home to Cleckheaton on Saturday, April 22, kick off 3pm.
