Warrington 36 Vale of Lune 33

NERVES were tested at Walton Lea Road as Warrington almost threw away a commanding lead.

Nathan Beesley scored four tries as Andy Roberts’ side built up a 36-7 lead, but the visitors roared back late on to threaten a comeback.

Beesley followed up Tom Wood’s punt into the corner to open his account before beating his opposition number for speed to score his second try.

Vale responded with a converted score to cut the gap to three points, but Beesley intercepted a pass to race home from 80 metres and complete his hat-trick, with Ben Hockenhull adding the extras.

Shortly after, Max Caldwell’s set off on a mazy run and the ball went through Phil Lynch and Beesley before eventually finding Tom Arnold to touch down.

Warrington were applying constant pressure and Hockenhull then slipped over for a try and added the conversion to give Warrington a 29-7 lead at the break.

It got even better after the interval as Wood’s floating pass allowed Beesley to get his fourth of the afternoon, but that was where Warrington’s scoring ended.

Four quick tries brought Vale to within three points with ten minutes remaining, but Warrington’s defence held out.

Roberts’ side, now fifth in the North One West table with two games left, travel to Rochdale on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Liverpool Collegiate 2nd 21 Warrington 2nd 17

WARRINGTON’S seconds suffered a surprise defeat to a Liverpool Collegiate side five places below them in the league table.

Jayesh Kerai controlled a rolling maul from a line-out and smuggled the ball over to touch down to give Warrington a good start, but the hosts held sway for the rest of the half with two converted tries.

Cam McNeil crossed in the corner to put Warrington back in with a shout, but Collegiate’s third try meant McNeil’s second late on was merely a consolation.

Warrington 3rd 7 Aldwinians 2nd 20

HAVING just about managed to put a team together, Warrington’s thirds could not match an experienced Aldwinians outfit.

Chris White got their only try of the afternoon, with Ben Dixon adding the conversion.
