LYMM’S women’s first team took a big step towards securing safety in Division One of the North West Women’s Hockey League with a 1-1 draw with Leeds Adel’s firsts.

An outstanding strike from youngster Ruby Kelly on the stroke of half time drew them level at Lymm Leisure Centre before a resilient defensive effort earned them a share of the spoils.

Lymm now have one game remaining this season as they host Brookland Poynton’s seconds, push back 12.15pm.

It was the final game of the season for many of the club’s teams, with the women’s thirds finished strongly with a 1-1 draw at promoted Runcorn’s firsts.

The men’s firsts wrapped up their league season with an entertaining 4-4 draw with Blackpool’s firsts, while the seconds ended the campaign with a heavy 4-0 loss at Macclesfield’s seconds.

Elsewhere, teams from the club’s junior section competed in the In2Hockey tournament on Sunday.

A girl’s under 12s side started promisingly in miserable conditions in Timperley as they drew with Oxton, but defeats to Deeside and Alderley Edge meant they could not qualify for the semi finals.

The girl’s under 10s were beaten in games against Neston, Alderley Edge and hosts Timperley but showed plenty of promise and potential.

At the boys tournament in Chester, the under 12s were edged out 1-0 in all of their first three games and were competitive despite a 3-0 loss to Brooklands in their final outing.

The under 10s were beaten in their first five games, but a 1-0 victory over Neston in their final match demonstrated their battling qualities.
