BIRCHWOOD Golf Club professional Phil Archer has cleared the first hurdle of his attempt to defend his Manchester Alliance Matchplay Knockout title.
Archer defeated Marple’s Gary Brown in the first round and now has two more contests to get through in order to book his place at the competition’s finals day, which takes place at Ashton on Mersey on Sunday, April 9.
He now faces Ashton on Mersey’s Ollie Smith in the second round.
Lymm’s Graham Cox is also in the draw and he takes on Vale Royal Abbey’s Paul Grannell.
