Crosfields 74 Salford City Roosters 0

CROSFIELDS’ superb start to life in Division Two of the National Conference League with a demolition of Salford City Roosters on Saturday.

A large crowd at Hood Lane, including several of the club’s former players, witnessed a near-flawless display from Soap as they ran in 13 tries.

As a result, Mark Brennan’s side maintain their 100 per cent start to the new season as Nathan Taylor and Scott Cullen both helped themselves to hat-tricks and skipper Jack Reid kicked 11 conversions.

Chris Hull got the ball rolling as early as the first minute against a depleted visiting side before Taylor danced through to open his account for the afternoon.

Reid converted his own try between the posts before Soap’s strong bench gave them a new burst of energy, with Matty Barber sending John Whittaker on a free run to the line. He was held short, but Hayden James burrowed over from dummy-half.

Former Rylands winger Chris Dean supported Reid’s break to give him his first try in Crosfields colours before home debutant Cullen and Joe Moore wrapped up the first half scoring.

Despite their 42-point advantage, there was no let-up from Soap as Hull and Ash Cornelia helped put Cullen over for his second try.

Soap continued to score at will, with Cullen finishing off a 50-metre move involving Taylor and Dan Reid before Moore got on the end of a kick to double his tally.

Some sensational rugby allowed Dan Reid to get in on the act and score try number 11 and Taylor was able to cross twice in the closing stages to complete his treble.

Brennan’s side make the short trip to face Leigh East on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

A YOUNG Crosfields A side were just edged out in their opening North West Men’s League Division Three game at Oldham St Annes.

Despite having Bailey Hartley sin-binned early on, Danny Lee’s quick tap penalty took him over the line to give Soap the lead, with Sam Hickey adding the extras.

Lee got his second to put Crosfields 10-6 up at the break, with their second-half try coming from Tom Brown.
