Lymm 10 Huddersfield 26

ADAM Fletcher preferred to look on the bright side of his Lymm side’s defeat to runaway league leaders Huddersfield on Saturday.

The hosts created plenty of chances at Beechwood, but the National League Three North leaders were clinical to continue their record of winning every game this season.

“We pushed them all the way but the basics let us down,” Fletcher said.

“We had lots of chances, but made too many mistakes.

“However they are a good side and we will come away with lots of positives.”

Early signs looked grim for Fletcher’s side and it took the visitors only 12 minutes to take the lead when Alex Battye crossed beside the posts for a try converted by Chris Bell.

However Lymm refused to fold, and took the game to Huddersfield.

However they lost possession in a number of promising positions.

Eventually their play was rewarded with a try for fly-half Will Titherington, with Cormac Nolan adding the conversion to level the scores.

Five minutes before the break, Huddersfield hit back by pinning Lymm down on their own try line and Nick Sharpe rumbled over from a lineout.

Lymm made the perfect start to the second half when Nolan kicked a penalty to narrow a gap to two points, but that was as good as it got.

When the ball came loose in the Huddersfield 22, they kicked to the other end and Lewis Workman won the race to the ball to score, with Bell adding the extras.

Huddersfield secured a bonus point when Lewis Bradley crossed for their fourth try to seal defeat for Lymm, who travel to Wirral on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
