WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s veteran runners enjoyed a successful weekend as three members performed superbly in their age groups.

Dave Tomkins was competing at the monthly Halewood 5km road race and his time of 23mins 17secs was enough to take first place in the over 65s age group and 40th in the overall race.

Similarly, Graham Green was victorious in the over 50s category at the Trafford 10km road race as he came home in a time of 33mins 19secs.

His time was good enough for 144th place overall, while nephew Jack was not far behind in 162nd in torrential rain and he stopped the clock in 33mins 44secs, which was more than 100 seconds quicker than his previous personal best.

Further afield in Doncaster, Steve Watmough crossed the Pennines to take part in the Northern Cross Country Championships.

He finished fourth overall in 35mins 52secs, which won him a bronze medal in the over 50s category.

THE first race of the Warrington five-mile series will take place in Burtonwood on Sunday, March 25.

The race at Colliers Moss is part of the new format devised by the Warrington Running Partnership, with other races taking place in July and October.
