Lymm 2nd 61 Rochdale 2nd 5

IN the absence of a first-team game, Lymm’s seconds turned on the style at Beechwood on Saturday as they swept past Rochdale.

Their nine-try success, featuring a Richard McEvoy hat-trick, eight Rhys Jones conversions and 40 unanswered points in the second half, makes it four wins out of four for Lymm in the Cotton Traders Conference B League.

After McEvoy beat three men to score his first try in the corner, Rochdale were able to get their only points of the game when they drove over for an unconverted score.

That was as good as it got from the visitors as Lymm found their rhythm before the break, with Kieran Williams being pushed over by the pack before excellent handling and support play saw Mike Floyd sprint home from 20 metres out.

More pressure came after half time and flanker Matt Hands took advantage by diving over to extend the lead further.

A scrappy period followed, but the final 25 minutes demonstrated exactly what Lymm could do.

Jones, Tom Shard and Ollie Lancaster all crossed, while McEvoy got over twice more to complete his treble.

They will hope to extend their perfect record on Saturday when they host bottom side Stockport.

LYMM’S first team return from a break on Saturday as they welcome fourth-placed Hull to Beechwood, kick off 2.15pm.

Adam Fletcher’s side will be hoping to bounce back from defeat to Billingham last time out in National League Three North.
