BOTH of Warrington Hockey Club’s women’s teams enjoyed fine weekends as they won their fixtures.

Despite a rocky period in the first half against Bowdon, the first team held a half-time lead thanks to a calm finish from skipper Kate Connolly.

Warrington stepped up the intensity after the break, with a Steph Rawlins brace and an Emma Barlow strike helping to complete a 4-1 victory.

The team sit 10th in the Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division One and travel to high-flying Alderley Edge’s seconds on Saturday, push back 1.30pm.

The seconds enjoyed a notable success as they won 2-1 at league leaders Macclesfield.

Tammy Finlayson gave them the lead before Laura Page added the crucial second goal to pull off a superb victory.

Their third win in a row pushes them up to fourth in Division Four as they prepare to welcome bottom side Sale’s fourths to Priestley College on Saturday, push back 12.45pm.

Meanwhile, the men’s first team had two games over the weekend, narrowly losing the first 3-2 to University of Liverpool’s seconds despite gaining a 2-1 lead through Ben Vickers and Tom Lloyd.

Vickers, Adam Garrod and Matt Pettit were on the scoresheet on Sunday during their entertaining 3-3 draw with Kirkby Lonsdale.

They face another double header this weekend, travelling to Lytham St Annes’ seconds on Saturday before hosting Didsbury Northern’s fifths on Sunday The men’s seconds went down to a 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Prescot and host Liverpool John Moores University on Saturday.
