WARRINGTON Town Reserves went back to the top of Cheshire League One with a 6-0 thrashing of neighbours Grappenhall Sports.

The victory sees them leapfrog Billinge, who slipped to a surprise defeat to Halebank, and lead Pilkington, who they face on Saturday, on goal difference.

The struggling hosts proved more than a match for their visitors in the first half at Stockton Lane until Dylan Glass fired Steve Hayes’ side ahead just before half time with a low shot after cutting inside.

Hayes made changes at half time and one of them, John Humphreys, proved instrumental as the visitors ran riot after the interval.

He sent Rhys Bowers through to double the lead before powering home the third goal himself from close range.

John Edge fired a shot into the top corner for Town, who were now in complete command, before Humphreys curled home two excellent free kicks to complete his hat-trick.

Elsewhere in League One, goals from Dean Jennings and Jon Priest could not stop Daten from slipping to a 4-2 loss at AFC Macclesfield.

Priest and Kyle Gallagher also saw red for the visitors as they finished with nine men ahead of their ‘derby’ with Grappenhall on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Rylands boss Darren Davies slammed his team’s second-half performance as “simply unacceptable” as they lost 3-0 to a Styal side they thrashed 10-0 just three weeks ago.

Alex Wheelan gave the hosts a half-time lead at Altrincham Road before doubling his tally after the break. Tom Pryce made the points safe late on after an error from Blues keeper Conor Yarwood.

Greenalls PSO led at half time in their home game against title-chasing Wythenshawe Town thanks to a goal from Alex Hardman, but the high-flyers came back in the second half to record a 2-1 victory.

Eagle Sports’ recent good record over higher-ranked sides did not extend to Saturday as they were thumped 4-0 by Linotype Cheadle.

Meanwhile, Moore United’s League Two clash with Deva Christleton was postponed and Orford’s LCFA Saturday Junior Cup quarter final ended in a 4-1 defeat to Netherley Woodlane Legion.

Premier Division: Eagle Sports v Malpas, Greenalls PSO v Rudheath Social.
