A NEW-LOOK Cheshire Wire Green under 14s team showed great promise in a 64-50 loss to Liverpool.

Fraser Forde, Arin Uzanali, Declan Sheftz and Lewis Parker made their first appearances in a contest that was swayed Liverpool’s way in the second quarter.

After the first quarter ended 10-10, a change of players led to Wire falling behind 31-13.

A comeback showed that Wire were more than capable of turning the game around but the end result demonstrated Liverpool’s ability as a well coached and physical opponent to seal the outcome by winning the final quarter by one point.

Wire, although faced with Liverpool’s new-found dominance while integrating new teammates, played well and in particular newcomer Parker took the most valuable player accolade with a double double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Sheftz also impressed with 10 points, while the highest scorer was Barney Harris with 13 points.

Max Pedder, although achieving 11 rebounds to also get a double, managed nine points, followed by Mike Holce with six points.

At under 16s level, Cheshire Wire Premier faced Manchester Magic on their home court at Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Complex and it looked throughout as if their great effort would lead them to victory.

But in the last quarter the heat was turned up by Magic, who overwhelmed the hosts to take the final quarter and win the game 67-66.

Cheshire Wire White kept their expected loss to Liverpool Red to a 75-16 scoreline.

Red are unbeaten in the league, having scored an average of 120 points per game in the process.

Keeping the visitors to 75 was an excellent effort from Dave Price’s boys in the circumstances and a notable improvement compared to the last game Wire White played against the same opponents.
