It's time to continue our countdown of the town's top 10 sporting moments of 2016.

Number six comes from a game that most Wire fans will want to forget, but it was a definining moment for one homemade star.

6. RUGBY LEAGUE: Homegrown talent lights up Old Trafford:

A STAR is born and his name is Declan Patton.

With Wolves missing influential half-back Chris Sandow, the 21-year-old sparkled at the business end of the season as Wolves reached their third Super League Grand Final in five years.

Tony Smith was impressed enough to stick with Patton for the Old Trafford showdown against Wigan despite Sandow’s return to fitness and he repaid his faith.

He sold the Warriors defence a dummy before charging over to give Wolves a half-time lead.

Wigan came back the game 12-6, but with Sandow now in self-imposed exile, Patton’s responsibilities may well increase in 2017.
