TODAY sees the first appearance of Warrington Wolves in our top 10 countdown.
While it wasn't a game to decide the outcome of a trophy, it is still one that will live long in the memory of many a Wire fan...
8. RUGBY LEAGUE: Sold-out HJ sees Wolves beat Widnes:
HAVING won their first six Super League games and played some sparkling rugby, Tony Smith’s side welcomed a Widnes outfit who were sitting just ahead of them in the table.
The lure of a top-two clash between near neighbours was enough to ensure a sold-out crowd at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Good Friday.
The Vikings made the better start and tries from Tom Gilmore and Rhys Hanbury opened up a 10-0 lead.
Thankfully from a Wolves perspective, that was as good as it got as Chris Sandow, Tom Lineham, Kurt Gidley, Ryan Atkins and Ben Currie all crossed to ensure a 28-10 victory for The Wire.
That was enough to leapfrog their rivals and ensure Wolves’ best ever start to a Super League campaign.
