WOOLSTON Rovers held their annual presentation night in front of a large crowd on Friday, with hooker Ryan Brown scooping the Open Age team’s Player of the Year award in the ceremony at Monks Sports Club.

Brown played a crucial role in John Fieldhouse’s side’s successful season in the National Conference League Division Three.

Sadly, Brown could not help Rovers to promotion as they lost to Drighlington in the play-off final on September 17, the second time in a row their season has ended in play-off heartbreak.

He made 19 league appearances for the Monks Sports Club side in 2016, crossing for six tries in the process.

The hooker also picked up the team’s Forward of the Year prize.

Australian centre Justin Becker took home three awards, including Player’s Player of the Year.

He also picked up the Back of the Year gong and was named top tryscorer after crossing the whitewash 23 times in 2016.

Prop Chris Mellor was also a winner, scooping the Coach’s Award for the Open Age team, while Dan Fearnley was named as the most improved Open Age player and the Clubman of the Year award was shared by Sean Conway and the A side’s Richard Potts.

The President’s award was also shared between Bobby McGregor and Billy Maunder.

Potts enjoyed a stand-out year and picked up the Player and Player’s Player awards for the North West Men’s League side.

Jimmy Evans was named Back of the Year, Tom Fagan won the Forwards prize and Ali Worrall picked up the Coach’s award.

The Under 18s also gave out their end-of-season prizes, with Callum Moore picking up both Player of the Year gongs.

Olly Hands and Jake Bennicke won the Backs and Forwards awards respectively, while the Vice President’s award went to Ben Whitehurst.

Max Ainsworth picked up the Coach’s prize, while Olly Parr was named as the side’s most improved player.
