Eagle 12 Port Sunlight 51

EAGLE briefly looked to have turned a corner at home on Saturday, but their miserable start to their South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two season continued against Port Sunlight.

They conceded an early deficit at Thornton Road as the visitors took a 10-0 lead, but the hosts got back into the contest after a series of drives from the forwards led to Jack Bainzcyk breaking tackles to score.

Jason Jackson then launched an attack from his own half and his deep kick led to Bainzcyk crossing for his second score.

Jackson and the Port Sunlight fly-half exchanged penalties before the break as Eagle made it to half-time just one point in arrears.

However, injuries took their toll on the hosts and the visitors were able to exploit growing gaps in their defence.

Three tries in quick succession effectively put the game beyond the hosts and Port Sunlight pushed the score out late on as Eagle tired.

Despite playing at home for the first time this season, Eagle were unable to avoid a fifth straight league defeat.

Their quest for a first win of the campaign continues on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Stockport to take on Heaton Moor, kick off 3pm.
