WOOLSTON Rovers junior coach Scott Bolton says he is “absolutely stunned” after picking up a major national award for his work at the club.

Bolton, who coaches the club’s under 14 Gold side, was named Community Coach of the Year at the Community Club Awards dinner, which took place the night before the Super League Grand Final.

He was presented with his award by Widnes Vikings head coach Denis Betts at the ceremony at Old Trafford.

Bolton beat two other coaches to win the award and said it was a team effort to bring it back to Woolston.

“I am absolutely stunned to win this but at the same time I am delighted,” he said.

“It is a team effort as I couldn’t do it all myself. I have a great coaching team around me as well as wonderful support from my wife Cathy.

“This award is for everybody connected to the team including the players, coaches and families; without them I wouldn’t be receiving this.”

Bolton was praised for “going the extra mile” for his team and his introduced such things as video analysis to improve the performance of his team.

He also spends hours producing stats and helped raise more than £22,000 to take his side over to Catalans for a rugby and character-building trip.

Dave Whalley, Rovers’ Public Relations Officer, says everyone at the club is proud of Bolton.

“Scott epitomises the values that we instill at the club and the strides that his side has made over the past couple of seasons has been amazing. I am sure that things will continue to get even better over the next few years.” he said.

“We have many excellent coaches down at the club and this goes to show that we are obviously doing something right.

“This is a great achievement for Scott and everybody at Woolston is delighted for him. It is a fully deserved recognition for him.”
