GOALKEEPER Roger Parr was a hero as Warrington Hockey Club men’s second team secured their first win of the season against their Golborne counterparts.

After taking the lead thanks to a goal from Rich Hannibal, it looked as though they would be denied again when Golborne were awarded a penalty flick.

However Parr dived low to his right to make a save, ensuring his side kick-started their campaign.

The women’s first team were not as fortunate, however, as they suffered a defeat at Northop Hall despite an impressive team performance.

Sally Fraser and Steph Rawlins caught the eye in particular, but they could not capitalise on a string of chances and were hit twice on the break to lose 2-0.

The women’s second team also had the misfortune of suffering defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Alderley Edge fifths.

They travel to Sale thirds on Saturday, while the firsts host Alderley Edge’s seconds.

Meanwhile the men’s first team made a long trip to Keswick, and it was an unhappy trip home as they were beaten 3-1 in the Lake District.

They will look to bounce back from that loss when they welcome Lytham St Annes seconds to Priestley College on Saturday, 2.15pm start.

The men’s seconds are also in action on Saturday when they travel to face Liverpool John Moores University, 12.45pm start.
