Kendal 20 Lymm 14.

DESPITE holding a half-time lead and defending stoutly, Lymm could not hold on for a victory in the Lake District as Kendal took the spoils on Saturday.

The visitors scored two superb tries courtesy of Cormac Nolan and Chris Owens, but it was the relentless attack of the hosts that won the day.

A second defeat of the season for Adam Fletcher’s side was not enough to move them from third in the National League Three North table.

Kendal flew out of the traps and were the first to cross after just five minutes when Lymm flanker Jake Ashall was penalised for a tip tackle.

From the resultant penalty line-out, the maul rolled for 15 minutes and Kendal remained patient for John Dervey to cross in the corner for a try converted by Glenn Weightman.

Lymm struggled to get out of their own half and whenever they did, their attack was riddled with poor decision-making.

However, they did manage to break free and equalise when Ollie Higginson made a powerful break through the Kendal defence.

He offloaded to Sam Mullarkey, who found the Lymm backs in support and Joe Knowles sent Nolan over on the left for a scintillating try which he converted himself.

Higginson was again the architect for the visitors’ second try when he broke from a scrum deep inside his own half before finding Tom Bray to take the ball through the middle of the home defence.

His dummy allowed him the space to slip a pass for Owens to score on the right, with Nolan again adding the extras.

Sadly, however, that was as good as it got for Lymm as Kendal ran in 13 points without reply in the second half.

Weightman skipped past a tired defence to equalise before adding two penalties in the last ten minutes to secure the points.

Lymm will look to bounce back when they host Billingham on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
