VETERAN Warrington Hockey Club men’s team goalkeeper Roger Parr helped Wales over 65s win the Celtic Cup at the weekend.

The first-team net-minder did not concede a goal as his nation scored successes against France 9-0, Scotland 2-0 and Ireland 2-0.

While he was away, Warrington’s men’s first team went out of the Lancashire Cup despite an outstanding performance against a strong Ormskirk team.

For long periods Warrington defenders Noal Phillpotts and Erdosi Botond frustrated Ormskirk’s attack, but they found themselves 2-0 down at half time.

Warrington pulled one back through the tireless efforts of Chris Lyon before they conceded another.

The women’s second team put their first points on the board in Cheshire League Division Four with a 1-0 win against Neston’s thirds.

Becky Miller put Warrington ahead and Jennifer Herst secured the win by saving a penalty flick.

The women’s first team lost 6-0 against Neston’s seconds despite committed defending from Sally Prince and Carrie Wright.

Lymm Ladies’ thirds lost 6-2 at Whitchurch.

Goals in each half came from Katy Arber and Anna Dempsey.
