Broughton Park 2nd 35 Warrington 2nd 21

A YOUNG Warrington second string found the going just too tough at Broughton Park.

Ben Dixon crossed in response to two home efforts before the break.

Park soon flexed their muscles after the break, but Dixon’s second and a try for Cam Lewis replied.

Warrington’s young side found their heavier, more experienced opponents too strong up front in the second period, although they showed great spirit.

“This was very much a case of who wanted the win most,” said coach Andy McDermott.

“Although we saw some great individual performances from the likes of James Brazendale and Ben Dixon, with Andy Wright a rock in defence, there was just not the team commitment which is normally the essence of our game.

"Next up we play Blackburn, who are just below us in the league. It should be interesting.”

WARRINGTON put on a dazzling display to blitz their opponents.

Mike Haddon grabbed a hat-trick, while Tim Grimshaw and Gidson Hamblet scored two each.

Tom Greene, Tony Fretwell, Ben Hart, Ian McLarney, Paul Tierney and James Oatway also got in on the 13-try demolition in their best win of the season so far.

“It just goes to show that a week is a long time in rugby,” mused captain Ben Hart.

“Last week we conceded 76 points at Altrincham. This week we score 67 points with no reply from the opposition.

"Next we are at Didsbury, who are currently third in the league. Let’s hope we can continue with our cavalier style of play.”
