WARRINGTON’S Danny Craven says he is determined to make a success of his boxing career ahead of his professional debut.

The former Hook and Jab star has signed with Kieran Farrell Promotions, who also look after fellow Warringtonian Nathan Wheatley, after more than 60 fights as an amateur.

Craven is set to make his debut on Farrell’s show at Manchester’s Bowlers Arena on November 2 but he tells of how life outside the ring hasn’t been easy so far.

“I’m from Warrington but I moved around Warrington a lot as a child,” he said.

“I didn’t have the easiest of upbringings in life, and I was in and out of foster care.

“My mum and dad both had problems with addictions and, if it wasn’t for boxing, I could have gone down that route too.

“It would have been easy to be like a lot of people in deprived areas these days, selling drugs to make quick money.

“I didn’t want that life.”

The light-welterweight, who has also represented England in an impressive amateur career, says boxing has helped him overcome a tough start in life.

He now hopes his chosen sport can give his own family a boost, and thinks his partnership with Farrell will give him the best possible chance.

“I stuck to my boxing and it took me all the way to boxing on the national team set-up,” he said.

“I knew that nothing was going to come easy for me in life, and that’s why I’m so dedicated to boxing.

“I’m delighted to be turning over as a professional with Kieran Farrell; his drive is unbelievable and that’s what makes me want to succeed even more.

“I want to give my family and my young daughter the best in life and I know I can do it through boxing if I keep putting the work in, in the gym and on fight night.”

Farrell enjoyed a professional career of his own before being forced to retire in 2013 after suffering brain damage in a defeat to current WBA world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla.

He now trains and promotes a growing stable of fighters, and believes Craven can go far.

“Danny is a quality kid and a quality talent,” he said.

“He was a very good amateur and has really impressed me when sparring some good fighters from this area.

“I’m really excited for his future; he’s driven and has the will to win and I genuine believe we have a top class fighter on our hands.”
