THAT'S a great way to finish your maiden Olympics - with a second medal as part of a record-breaking team!

James Guy helped Team GB win silver in the last race of the Rio Olympics swimming meet, the 4x100m medley relay.

USA took the gold in Olympic record time, with Michael Phelps taking his medal tally to a incredible 28 - 23 of them coloured gold from 30 finals.

The 20-year-old former Cardinal Newman High School and Our Lady's Catholic Primary School pupil gave his all at the Olympic Aquatics Centre as he raced in his least favourite discipline against his hero Phelps in the butterfly leg.

He started out first after Adam Peaty's brilliant breaststroke section and pushed Phelps all the way before handing over to freestylist Duncan Scott into the silver medal position that he held ahead of Australia.

Along with Chris Walker-Hebborn's start in the breaststroke, Team GB knocked more than a second off the British record set in the heats to complete the nation's greatest Games in the pool since 1908.

Guy, whose early talent was recognised as Warrington Under 11s Sports Personality of the Year back in 2007, played his part in contributing two silver medals to the Team GB haul, having also collected a gong with the 4x200m freestyle relay squad earlier this week.

This was his 10th race of the Games, having also placed fourth and sixth respectively in the 200m and 400m freestyle finals in Rio's opening week.
