LATCHFORD Albion captain Ryan Hickman is set for further international recognition ‘across the pond’ with England Lionhearts.

Open age skipper Hickman, who has been with the Victoria Park club since the age of six, was chosen as part of the Lionhearts squad, which represents the best amateur talent in the country, for the second time after he took part in a tour of Serbia last year alongside teammate Danny Brown.

This year, the team’s tour will take them to Canada as they fly out on Sunday for two tough games against Ontario State as well as a meeting with the Canada Wolverines national side.

Hickman’s head coach at Latchford, Lee Smith, says the call-up is testament to the hard work his captain puts in every week.

“We are so pleased and proud for Ryan, his commitment and dedication have been exceptional,” he said.

“Having secured international honours last year, the challenge was to improve and continue pushing himself.

“His selection is justification for all the hard work he puts in both on and off the field.”

On the field, Albion secured a 24-0 win over Bamber Bridge at Victoria Park Stadium on Saturday to ensure they remained in second place in the North West Men’s League Division One, four points behind leaders Orrell St James.
