WOOLSTON winger Chris Twigg says he is “buzzing” to be named in Thailand’s squad for October’s international friendly with Malta.

The 17-year-old goalkicking winger has turned in some stellar performances for John Fieldhouse’s side this year and will now take part in what is being billed as the biggest rugby league game in Asian history in Chiang Mai.

Twigg, who is from Tarvin near Chester but qualifies for Thai selection through his grandmother, says his call-up is down to the hard work of the staff at Rovers.

“I’m buzzing about being selected to join the Thai squad and I just can’t wait for October now,” he said.

“I am honoured to be given the chance to represent Thailand and I hope to do the Woolston club proud.”

Twigg was released by the Warrington Wolves academy last year but Peter Thompson, chairman of the Thai RFL, says the youngster has been on their radar for a while.

“We have been watching Chris for a couple of years and have been very impressed with his speed, athleticism and goal kicking,” he said.

“Chris will be joined by several other Thai heritage players based in England and we are sure they will make a big contribution to the squad.”
