SSK Karate returned from Dublin with a new world champion in their midst.

Eight-year-old Daniel Trow was a cut above his rivals in kata (patterned moves) in the WUKF World Championships.

His success for the Great Sankey Leisure Centre based club came in the category for six to eight year olds.

Clubmate Tyler McKenna, 20, claimed silver in senior men’s under 70kg kumite (fighting), as well as two bronze gongs in junior shitoryu kata section – losing out to USA.

The women's kumite team of Jo Phelan, Rebecca Dawson and Sarah Ahmed reached the semi finals.

Instructor Stephen Nelson said: "The club also goes from strength to strength after promoting five black belts to second dan and four brown belts to black belt.

"To celebrate we are giving away two free lessons at the club to all local children aged six and above."
