WARRINGTON ANGLERS' ASSOCIATION

JIMMY Byrne, the match organiser, claimed first place in our disabled and over 60s match.
With fish everywhere in spawning mode, and tightly-shoaled at various breeding hotspots, it was a struggle to tempt even the smaller immature ones to feed.
He needed only 1lb 12ozs 8drs at Acton Grange Bridge, on the Bridgewater Canal, to take the biggest prize. In-form Dickie Wernham finished as runner-up with 1-4-0.
After a slow start due to the recent bank holiday weekend, our members-only Woodshaw Junior Summer League starts in earnest on Monday.
The eight-date series, with points awarded weekly, concludes with a fun ninth fixture after which prizes are awarded.
Cup competitions, six in total, are incorporated along the way.
Every youngster who enters is eligible for a prize.
Paul Barraclough ventured to Statham Pool for an afternoon session.
He reports good sport with loads of roach, two eels, a brace of small carp, a nice tench of 4-12-0 before – for good measure – ending his afternoon with a pike taken on red pellet.
The result? A busy few hours, and home in time for tea.
Following last weekend’s debacle at Sandiway Lakes, members are reminded that it is a condition of membership (see rule 8) that all anglers must be in possession of a valid Environment Agency licence.
There is no excuse.
Every card-holder is authorised (see the rear cover of your licence) to challenge individuals fishing in any water rented or owned by Warrington Anglers’ Association, or committing an act that breaks the rules.
It’s your club; do not just leave it to the bailiffs if you see anything untoward.
They can’t be everywhere at the same time, and are volunteers who care for the wellbeing of our club.
Our headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for memberships, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any queries.
Keep sending catch reports by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk, or call me on 01928 716238.
