GEORGE Barber extended a winning sequence in our disabled and over 60s series to three matches last week.

His net contained silver fish, weighing 4-6-4, taken using pole and punched-bread tactics.

Match organiser Jimmy Byrne was runner-up with 3-13-0.

It was nice to see Alf Seddon out and about again, more so considering he made the frame and collected some winnings.

Please note a change of venue to the Trent & Mersey Canal next Monday.

Eric Smith enjoyed a session on Grey Mist Mere last week accompanied by his friend ‘Fishless Fletcher’, and ended up with six tench to 6-6-0 and a 3lbs pike that took a fancy to three red maggots as he was reeling in.

‘Fishless’ landed a tench that sent the scales to just over 4lbs.

He has now doubled the amount of fish caught since he landed a personal-best crucian from Cicely Mill Pool last September!

Meanwhile Eric returned on Thursday, enjoying his best haul - landing 10 tench weighing more than 6lbs and three more over 7lbs that included a personal-best specimen of 7-6-0.

He also lost a much bigger one at the net when it slipped from the hook.

Grandson Callum joined him on Sunday, and also managed a brace of fish weighing 6lbs and 6-10-0 respectively.

Worthington Lakes remains on my ‘to visit’ list.

It is still producing great bream sport to groundbait feeder tactics, and is often overlooked as a carp fishery despite a few decent-sized fish reported this week.

Anglers visiting Appleton Reservoir must leave their vehicle in our locked car park, not at the roadside.

Bailiffs have been instructed to report any offenders, and the police have been alerted.

As a club we enjoy an excellent relationship with local residents, and don’t want that spoiled by inconsiderate individuals.

Our headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for memberships, subscription, night-permit renewals and any queries.
