Bolton 1 Lymm 3

LYMM Hockey Club women's team moved up to sixth in North League Division One after defeating basement dwellers Bolton.

Nat Riley hammered home a penalty corner at the second attempt for the opening goal.

Amy Heywood needed to be on her toes as she combined with joint players of the game Rhiannon Sears and Lisa Hartley-Woodrow to keep Bolton at bay.

After strong build-up play from Ruby Kelly, plus Keira Fleming transferring the ball out of defence through midfielders Hollie Acklam and Alex Pepper, Riley doubled the lead.

Lymm had the best of the opening exchanges after the restart, Ashleigh Jackson making an inspired run from left wing into opposition territory and Pepper applied a clinical finish.

Bolton grabbed a consolation moments before the final whistle.

Wilmslow 3rd 0 Lymm 3rd 1

LYMM sealed victory in the closing stages via a goal from Alison Fearn.

The ball crossed the line from Fearn's strike after a short corner resulted in the ball breaking through the Wilmslow defence.

Grace Morris, the Lymm keeper, worked hard to maintain a clean sheet.

“We are glad to get the win and three points even if we did leave it to the last few minutes,” said captain Sarah Lyons.

“The team worked well and persevered to the end but we did make it hard for ourselves at times. Congratulations to Toni Mason on her thirds debut as she was like a terrier on the defenders' heels."

Lymm Ladies 5th 11 Sale Ladies 3rd 0

LYMM'S development team set about Sale from the whistle, quickly establishing attacking dominance and never allowing the opposition to settle.

Toni Mason, backing up from Saturday, was a constant threat and she starred with five goals, but the highlight of the game was a beautifully-executed lob over the advancing keeper from Jess Sutton which allowed Amelia Riley to touch in at close range.

Two goals apiece were added by Hannah Wadsworth and Charlotte Smith, while Lily Lofthouse also netted.
