HARRIET Knowles-Jones achieved success in the weekend's Great Edinburgh Cross Country meeting.

The 17-year-old, who won team gold and team silver with Great Britain in the 2014 and 2015 races, claimed her first individual medal in the event, sealing silver in the junior women's race at Holyrood Park on Saturday.

Knowles-Jones, from Lymm, finished two seconds behind winning teammate Bobby Clay, who the Warrington Athletics Club runner beat for the first time when winning silver in the European Cross Country Championships in France last monthh.

Clay clocked 14mins 9secs and Knowles-Jones 14mins 11secs, steering her country to victory over Europe and USA in the race and contributing to Great Britain winning the overall team competition.

Clubmate Carys McAulay featured in the 4x1km relay with the Scotland B team, following the withdrawal of another runner.

The Commonwealth Youth 800m silver medallist, the youngest runner in the race, received the baton 20 seconds adrift of the leading runners but ran strongly to bring the team home in eighth place.
