A HOME play-offs semi finals spot is up for grabs when Woolston Rovers visit Waterhead Warriors on Saturday.

John Fieldhouse, whose side currently sit fifth on points difference, knows a convincing win in Rovers' final game of the regular season could boost their hopes of promotion to NCL Division Two.

It comes after Woolston won 48-26 at Gateshead Storm last weekend.

Already assured of a play-offs place, bettering Stanningley or Drighlington's result would herald a sought-after home tie for Rovers.

“We are going there in a confident frame of mind but we know that we have to continue to perform like we have done over the past three weeks," said head coach Fieldhouse.

“Waterhead have not had the best run of results recently but we all know that teams like to finish their season on a high so they will be keen to put one over on us.

“We have to ensure that we are fully focused and complete our sets.

“If we can get off to a good start then we will be very hard to beat.”

Two tries each from Billy Maunder and Sean Conway, along with scores for Tom Keevil, Wil Maudsley and Jack Sherratt secured the points for Rovers at Gateshead.

“We really had to dig deep to get the victory," added Fieldhouse.

“Gateshead have had some impressive victories over the past few weeks so we knew that it would be a tough game and that is exactly how it turned out.

“We built up a bit of a cushion in the first half playing downhill and, even though Gateshead had a purple patch for around 20 minutes in the second half that saw them score four tries, we never panicked and pulled clear once again in the closing stages to get a hard-earned two points.

“There were some very impressive performances but the most pleasing aspect is how we play as a cohesive unit; every player plays for each other and that is really helping us to get the right results.”

Rovers: Wil Maudsley; James Rosson, Justin Becher, Tom Keevil, Chris Twigg; Will Chadwick, Billy Maunder; Jack Sherratt, Ryan Brown, Chris Mellor, Anthony Clayton, Sean Conway, Harry Files. Subs: Andy Addison, Simon McEvoy, Dan Fearnley, Bobby McGregor.

Rovers A have their final league game of the season on Saturday when they travel to Leyland Warriors in the NWML Division Two.

They were beaten 60-10 at home by Golborne Parkside on Saturday at Monks Sports Club.

Chris Brown got the hosts' first try after Olly Hands and Lloyd Feather combined.

But Rovers were 32-4 down by the time Danny Brown sent twin Chris racing away to repay the favour for Feather to score wide right. Dominic Ball converted.

Rovers A will be looking for a confidence boost ahead of the Warrington Alliance Cup Final against Latchford Albion A the following Friday.

Woolston Rovers under 18s are planning for the 2016 season and are inviting any players who are interested in playing for the club at this age level to get in touch with head coach Mark Robinson.
