Eagle Sports 3 Styal 1

TWO second-half goals, added to a first-half strike from Nathan Williams, were enough to earn Eagle Sports victory against Styal at Thornton Road.

The Cheshire League  Premier Division game was a scrappy affair early on, with neither side taking a strong hold.

However, Eagle began to improve towards the end of the half and were rewarded when a good passing move ended in Williams slotting past the visiting keeper into the bottom corner.

The second half belonged to the home side as they dominated possession, with the visitors occasionally offering threat on the counter towards the end of the match.

Eagle's second goal was again a good move when Danny Nixon clipped the ball into an on-rushing Ryan Bishop, whose pull back found Lee Boardman.

Boardman's shot hit the post but rebounded kindly to James Maher, who put the ball into the net.

Maher then turned provider when his ball over the top found Jay Waldron and the winger finished well, lifting the ball over the stranded keeper into the empty net.

Styal did grab a later consolation, with Eagle wasting further chances to extend their lead before the final whistle went.

Eagle: Clare, R Bishop, Robinson, C Hall, Coleman, C Bishop, Waldron, Hope, Shakeshaft, N Williams, Maher. Subs: Nixon, L Boardman, M Boardman.

Linotype Cheadle HN Reserves 7 Eagle Sports Reserves 1

EAGLE Sports Reserves suffered a major second-half collapse as they fell to a heavy defeat at last season's champions Linotype Cheadle HN Reserves.

It was the visitors who took the lead when a mistake from the goalkeeper allowed Adam Joseph to finish well and despite conceding before the break, the teams went in level, with the game even all over the pitch and difficult to call for the second half.

After having a couple of good chances to take the lead again, Eagle were then hit by two quick goals from their hosts which threw the visitors, allowing the hosts to take control of the game and begin to pick Eagle off.

Further goals made the scoreline lopsided for the hosts in a game which, for 55 minutes, it was unknown who would take the points.

Eagle: I Martin, Mosley, Gatenby, A Moriarty, Heywood, Atkinson, Gibson, Joseph, Gallagher, Edwards, Wearing. Subs: Morrison, Derbyshire, G Moriarty.
