KEVIN Wainwright clinched his first Padgate Tennis and Bowls Club floodlit title.
He defeated Stephen Glover 21-11 in the final as the last 16 played off in front of more than 100 spectators on Sunday.
When Glover was leading 9-7 Wainwright won back the block, shortened the length of ends and went away to a 16-9 lead.
Although Glover won another couple of chalks Wainwright held his nerve to run out the winner.
Earlier he had a scare before narrowly beating Francis Penlington.
At one point Penlington was 17-7 down but staged a great recovery to lead 20-19.
However Wainwright won the last two ends.
Further wins over Mike Mannion and Carl Armitage saw Wainwright progress to the final.
Glover booked his place in the final with victories over Steve Jackson, Stephen Lea and Mike Spencer.
