WARRINGTON and District Football League round-up.

Orford 5 Grappenhall Sports 1

ORFORD knocked Cheshire League outfit Grappenhall Sports out of the Guardian Cup on Saturday.

Within a frantic opening 15 minutes Orford hit the net three times courtesy of Liam McLoughlin, man-of-the-match Thomas Neary and skipper Liam Moran, who took his goal tally to five in seven games.

McLoughlin added two more after the interval and there was time for Grappenhall to grab a consolation.

Lomax 6 Beeches 1

SCOTT Barron scored four times as recently reformed Lomax sent higher division Beeches crashing out of the Guardian Cup.

Lomax, two levels below the St Helens side in Division Four, established a 2-0 lead at half time with the opening Barron strike and the first of a four from Matty Mairs.

Barron's second was cancelled out by a fine headed goal, with the tie still in the balance.

Fine wing play by Craig Hoyland then set up the further goals from Barron and Mairs.

Burtonwood Albion 6 Woolston Rovers 2

PREMIER Division Burtonwood proved to be too strong for their lower-ranked opponents in Saturday's Guardian Cup first round clash.

Although Woolston Rovers, third in Division Two, made the net bulge twice, Alex Briscoe's hat-trick led the way for the home side.

Joshua Dixon also contributed with two goals, with Albion's other scorer being Stephen Murphy.

Sidac 2 Grange 2

GRANGE Sports gained a hard-earned point at Sidac in Division One.

After a goalless first half, Grange took the lead through Ryan Wilde.

Sidac pulled a goal back, before Grange restored an advantage with a superb team goal finished by Scott Robinson – his ninth strike of the season.

Grange appeared to have weathered a storm until a late long-range effort ensured the spoils were shared.

Winwick Athletic 5 Earlestown 6

WINWICK Athletic were denied a first point of the season after being denied by two heroic saves from Earlestown keeper Chris Spence in the last five minutes.

Athletic took the lead straight from the kick off but by half time were 2-1 behind the second-placed visitors and never led the Division Three encounter again.

Scorers for Winwick, who have notched 12 but conceded 17 times in their three league games so far, were Ahmed Osman, two, Martyn Starkey, two, and Paul Barnett.

Grange Sports Res 2 Orford 3rd 1

GRANGE Sports Reserves returned to winning ways and stay top of Division Four with another win that shows they have come a long way from the struggles of last season.

Goals from Mike Wharton and Craig Burton secured the win over fierce rivals Orford, and a sequence of five wins out of the last six games makes good reading for manager Phil Mannion.

Grange won only four of their 20 outings last season.
