WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s star under 20s women runners Carys McAulay and Harriet Knowles-Jones improved personal-best times and club records during the British Milers’ Club meeting in Solihull on Saturday.
Improving on standards they set in the World Youth Championships in Colombia this summer, McAulay’s 2mins 5.18secs saw her finish second in the 800m B race at Solihull, while Knowles-Jones registered 4mins 18.38secs in the 1,500m A race.
Lymm’s Knowles-Jones, who came home 15th, competed alongside British internationals, the Scottish champion and an Irish international and two Norwegians.
For 17-year-old McAulay, a former pupil at Bridgewater High School in Appleton, it is the perfect send-off to representing Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa, which start next week.
