WARRINGTON-based Cheshire Martial Arts student Joel Eccleston returned from the Elite Karate Association English Kata Championships in Wolverhampton with a host of titles.

The nine-year-old first-dan black belt impressed the judges to win his own age category – eight to nine years individual kata – as well as the 10 to 12 years title.

And Eccleston displayed his power and technique again in the 13 to 14 years individual kata, where he overcame world class competition up to five years his senior to secure first place.

His hat-trick of wins also aided the Shukokai Karate Alliance (SKA) representative squad to claim a trophy for the best performing team.

The club's dojo at Cheshire Martial Arts Centre is open seven days a week.
