FORMER junior captains Matt Murray and Josh Meeks had a keen tussle for Lymm Golf Club’s 36-hole Club Championship.

Murray eventually came out on top by three shots.

Meeks took the first-round lead on 69 aided by an eagle two at the par-four fourth hole.

However, Murray’s first-round total of 72 included an fantastic albatross two on the par-five sixth hole to leave him joint second with Chris Wood.

Meeks returned a level-par second round of 71 but Murray’s round-two total of 65, including six birdies and no bogeys, enabled him to take the trophy.

Both Murray and Meeks are home for the summer from their golf scholarships in America.

Murray has extra incentive – keeping up with European Tour playing brother Tom and his father Andrew, who is now plying his trade on the Seniors tour.

Tom is currently 189th on the Order of Merit, his best performance this year so far being tied seventh at the Nordea Masters in Sweden in June.

But he has not made the cut in four outings since.
