Woolston Rovers A 48 Halton Farnworth Hornets 24

WOOLSTON Rovers A continued their excellent recent run with a victory over Halton Farnworth Hornets in the NWML Division Two game at Monks Sports Cub on Saturday to move up into fourth place in the league table.

The first half belonged to Farnworth as they built up a twelve point lead but the second half was all Rovers as they ran in six unanswered tries to record a comfortable victory and make it five wins out of their last six league games.

Rovers opened the scoring in the third minute when prop forward Danny Griffiths spotted a gap to score on the right. Scrum half Will Chadwick converted and four minutes later a fine ball from Chadwick found second row Mike Ward who scored under the posts. Chadwick added the conversion.

The visitors then took control for the rest of the half and scored four unanswered tries through substitute Alex Smith, loose forward Ryan Kershaw, centre Mick Durbin and full back Alex Mellor. Smith converted all four to give his side a 24-12 half time advantage.

Six minutes into the second half Rovers stand off Ryan Brown spotted a gap from dummy half and shot through to score on the right. Chadwick converted and then eight minutes later Brown turned provider as his clever pass found second row Anthony Clayton who raced over. Chadwick added the conversion to level the score at 24-24.

On the hour Rovers went in front when a pass from hooker Ian Ward put substitute Tom Woodward through a gap to score and then almost immediately Chadwick made a break before finding prop forward Jack Sherratt who scored at the right of the posts. Chadwick added both conversions.

Rovers scored again when Chadwick’s short ball found Griffiths who powered through to score at the right of the posts. Chadwick added on the extras and then five minutes from time Brown found Woodward who stretched out to score.

Chadwick completed a perfect afternoon with the boot by landing his eighth conversion to make the final score 48-24 to Rovers.
