GRAPPENHALL’S batsmen posted a total higher than 200 at Neston, but it was not enough to secure a victory.

They did though return home with a larger share of the spoils than their hosts after a rain-hit draw.

Batting first after winning the toss, Iain Wright’s aggressive 41 complemented a patient half-century by Warwick Abraham, 63, and a breezy knock worth 22 from James McCoy at the top of the order.

The highlight was a partnership for the fifth wicket worth 74 runs between Abrahim and Ian Barnes, 45, before Grappers closed on 228 for 8.

Neston kept up with the required run-rate in reply but Sam Guest took 4-62, from 13 overs, as they fell two short.

Barnes claimed 2-42, while Alex Mathews took the other wicket to fall.

Now seven points from a position of safety, Grappers host Premier Division title-hopefuls Chester Boughton Hall this Saturday, from 12.30pm.
