CROSFIELDS and Woolston Rovers meet in a 'derby' clash on Thursday after both enjoying wins at the weekend.

Crosfields beat Dewsbury Moor Maroons 24-16, while Rovers won 50-22 at Wibsey Warriors.

Rovers sit fourth in National Conference League Three, but only one point above Soap ahead of Thursday's game, 7.30pm kick off.

After a 12-12 draw last month, Woolston head coach John Fieldhouse expects to see another 'classic' at Monks Sports Club.

“Your biggest game is always your next one and with that being against our close neighbours Crosfields that brings even more importance to it," he said.

"I am sure that both sets of players can’t wait to get going.

"With both teams being so closely matched and only separated by one point in the league table, it really does have all the ingredients for a classic game.

"It would be great to see a big crowd to get behind both teams.”

A late Matt Barber try ensured Crosfields would head into this one on the back of a win.

Earlier, Steve Pickersgill burst through on the half way, Hayden James supported the run and collected to go over. Troy Brophy converted.

Dewsbury hit back through James Etherly, with Max Vernon adding a second try soon after.

Crosfields then found themselves 16-6 down before beginning a fightback, with Brophy popping up 10 metres out to crash over.

Two minutes later Pickersgill and Moore combined for James to score and Brophy level with the boot.

Then, with two minutes to go, Pickersgill fed Barber for a close range crash over and Brophy converted.

David Rolt added a last minute penalty to complete the victory.

Crosfields host The Royal Logistic Corps in the Armed Forces Day at Hood Lane next Saturday.

Woolston's preparation saw them score a flurry of tries, the first in the sixth minute when Dan Fearnley profited from Chris Mellor and Ryan Brown's good work.

Brown added the next score, converted by Glyn Roberts, before Matt Clarke set up Billy Maunder.

An earlier Wibsey response was cancelled out as Harry Files found Clarke for a 16-point lead at the break.

Warriors hit first after the interval, but Brown went between the posts and then quickly completed his hat-trick.

Paul Berry, Christian Taylor and Rosson tries completed the rout.

Fieldhouse added: "To score nine tries and reach 50 points away from home is no mean feat and it is very satisfying.

"We are hopefully back on track; we have now scored 49 tries in 10 league games and I still think that our attack can get even better.

"We must stay focused now and continue to improve in each game.”

Rovers A visit Halton Farnworth Hornets tomorrow, Friday, in NWML Division Two.

They continued their winning run in a 32-28 success over Leyland Warriors on Saturday.

Tries came from Peter Leonard, Tom Woodward, Jack Holt, Shane Duffy and two from Tom McIntosh.

Coach Mark Robinson said: “We switched off for about five minutes near the end which made the scoreline look closer than it should have done but overall I was very happy with the way we played and we thoroughly deserved to win the game.

"Tom Woodward moved into the second row from the wing and did very well whilst Tom McIntosh made his debut for the club from the bench and helped himself to two tries.

"We have now moved into the top half of the table and things are beginning to click into place.

"We now need to continue playing to the best of our ability and make sure that we produce 80-minute performances starting at Farnworth on Friday.”
