A FORMER Warrington Schoolboys footballer was named League One Apprentice of the Year at the Football League Awards last night.
Warrington-born George Cooper, aged 17, scooped the prize having made 25 appearances for Crewe Alexandra so far this season.
That included scoring the winner against Coventry City on his home debut for the Alex at Gresty Road.
Cooper received the award at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Sunday evening in front of more than 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
On winning the award, Cooper said: "I wasn't expecting it to be honest. It has been a great experience, getting more starts, more appearances.
“I'm at a good place now, Crewe, everyone says it's a good place for kids, so we'll have a good pre-season and hopefully just take it from there."
