Didsbury TocH 12 Warrington 3rd 74

AN injury in the first minute of the game reduced TocH to 14 men and set the scene for Warrington’s 12-try rampage.

Winger Dan Reid opened the flood gates in the first five minutes, intercepting a pass on the half way line and a darting down the touchline for a try in the corner.

Straight from the restart a break from Phil Lynch laid the foundation for Warrington’s second try as the ball went quickly down the line to speedster centre Cameron Lewis who touched down between the posts giving Matt Drinkwater and easy conversion.

TocH drove back into the attack with their forwards but a dropped ball was snapped up by Matt Rockey at scrum half and a scintillating piece of play between Rockey and flying winger Haydn Fraser gave Rockey his first try between the posts.

Five minutes later Rockey added his second try, this time centre James Shaw, donning a strip for only the second time after a long absence, acting as the foil.

Fraser himself was next on the scoreboard, taking an inside pass from hooker Paul Thomson who had broken the defence with some determined running.

Drinkwater converted to bring the score to 0-33.

With no answer to Warrington’s speed and agility in the backs TocH’s best hope was their burly forwards and after some consistent pressure from this source on the Warrington line they were awarded a penalty try for their efforts.

Any consolation for the home team was short-lived, however, as Fraser added his second try with a blistering 50-yard effort and two minutes later on the stroke of half time Drinkwater got on the scoresheet finishing a nice break from the base of a scrum by Rockey.

TocH opened the scoring in the second half, again through their forwards with strong driving and good ball retention for a well-earned try.

However, poor passing and handling when the ball was moved wide was severely punished as Warrington countered with speed.

Centre Shaw was next on the score board, closely followed by Reid benefitting from an interception by Fraser on his own five metre line.

Reid added his third five minutes later giving Dan Penney an easy drop kick conversion from under the posts.

Prop Tom Green scored next again as a result of a Fraser interception and Mike Bellerby did his own interception and 50-yard gallop to round off a very one-sided affair.
