BUILD-UP to the Guardian Cup Final will be contrasting in style for Eagle Sports and Rylands.

Although Eagle are the current form team, Rylands may go into the showdown fresher at Warrington Town’s Cantilever Park ground on bank holiday Monday, May 4, kick off 11am.

Eagle made it 13 wins on the bounce when they defeated Daten 2-0 in Saturday’s semi final, while Rylands came through 3-2 in extra time in their last-four battle with holders Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds.

Eagle - who have won every game since losing to Crewe FC in the JB Parker Division One Challenge Cup on November 15 - are chasing success on three fronts and face seven games in the concluding 15 days of the season, including two cup finals.

Rob Hope’s men, who can thanks strikes from Lee Boardman (26mins) and Ged McAllister (53mins) for victory over Daten, play Byrom in the Liverpool FA Challenge Cup Final six days prior to the Guardian Cup decider, while also remaining in the race for the Premier Division title.

However, for Rylands, sat mid-table in the Cheshire Football League Premier Division, the Guardian Cup Final represents their only chance for silverware this season and can start to concentrate their efforts.

Rylands manager Dave Parr is looking forward to a crack at lifting the trophy.

He said: “I’m delighted for everybody in the club, most especially the players. They’ve worked hard and deserve the cup final appearance.”

His men met a Greenalls side not prepared to give up easily their grip on a cup they have won for the past two campaigns.

It took a strike from substitute Ben Brownhill in extra time to secure their passage.

Parr said: “I thought we controlled the first half but Greenalls came back at us in the second period.

“Full credit to the lads for re-grouping and playing so well in extra time. We need to finish the league games strongly now and prepare for the cup final in the right manner.”

Rylands led 2-0 at half time with goals from Calum Wilson and Mike Southern. Lee Hughes and Ben McWilliams levelled before Ben Brownhill’s clincher.
