Southport Storm 8 Burtonwood Bridge A 62

BURTONWOOD travelled up to Tarelton on Saturday afternoon to take on the Storm from Southport, and within moments of the kick off the effervescent half-back Andy Shelley had broken through the Storm’s defensive line to put down just at the side of the posts.

Shelley converted the try himself to turn the four into six.

Quick tries followed for the Bridge from the big prop James Innes, second row Ste Matthews, stand-off Brad Allen, skipper Rikki St Pier, and finally stand-in-centre Dave Quigley to make the half time score 32-4 to our favourite charges.

The second half was much of the same, with James Innes completing his hat-trick with the opening two tries of the second stanza.

These were complemented by efforts from prop Frankie Halton and hooker Sam O’Garra, shortly before the end of the game the outstanding Innes completed the scoring to make the final score 62-8 to the boys from Fir Tree Lane.

Man of the match went to James Innes with ample support from the hard working Frankie Scales and youngster Wil Maudsley who put in a great shift from full back.

Shelley kicked eight from 10, with Bradley Allen chipping in with a conversion.
