Chorley Panthers 24 Latchford Albion 16
LATCHFORD Albion marked their return to North West Men's League Division One with a defeat in but they had enough chances to have won a see-saw encounter.
Within the opening minutes Martin Whitehead scored between the posts after collecting captain Danny Brown's offload, Sam Dobson converting.
Unfortunately a combination of wrong options and penalties invited the home side back into the game, registering three tries to leave Albion trailing 16-6 at half time.
An early penalty edged the hosts further in front but Latchford began to find some rhythm and reduced the deficit when man-of-the-match Lewis Wightman scored a fine solo effort, with Dobson converting.
Shortly after a charge down from a Panthers kick Jamie Birchall race 50 metres to score, leaving Latchford trailing by two points with 15 minutes remaining.
The next score would be crucial and it was the home side who crossed and the cushion proved too great a deficit to overcome.
This Saturday Latchford are again on their travels against Wigan St.Cuthberts.
