ALTHOUGH the Cheshire Cup remains out of reach for Lymm Ladies, they are now only one win away from securing the North Hockey League Division Two South West title along with a shot at promotion in the play-offs.

Lymm, who host fifth-placed Crewe Vagrants on Saturday, overhauled a depleted University of Manchester side 9-0 at the weekend but fell 3-1 to an experienced Brooklands Poynton side in the Cheshire Cup semi finals 24 hours later.

Against a Manchester side with only seven outfield players, the tone was set for an attack versus defence training game when the opening goal was scored after 10 minutes.

Hollie Acklam, two, Lisa Hartley-Woodrow, Nat Riley and Helen Weston all registered goals, while player-of-the-game Suzanne Williams bagged four.

The following day, Lymm were rocked by conceding two early goals despite building much pressure themselves.

Midway through the second period Natalie Riley smashed in from wide right in the D.

It gave the away team a lift but Brooklands rode out the storm and added a third goal on a break.

Lymm Ladies seconds smashed seven goals past Alderley Edge thirds without reply.

They took control from the start, Ellie Anderson getting the last touch for a tip in from a Katy Arber strike.

Further goals were added by Arber, two, Alison Fearn, two, Sally Bircham and Ellie Anderson.
