THE cream of junior rugby league in Warrington battled it out on Saturday for a chance to be involved in Friday's World Series clash.

Twenty four teams of under sevens, eights and nines met at the Padgate Campus of the University of Chester.

And the winning teams will now get to play at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday before Warrington Wolves take on St George Illawarra Dragons in the first of this weekend's Super League v NRL battles.

The winning youngsters will then act as mascots on the day.

But hostilities were put aside on Saturday as Chris Bridge, Gary Wheeler and Gareth O'Brien from the Wolves and Jake Marketo, Dane Nielsen and Euan Aitken from the Dragons teamed up to sign shirts and meet the players.

Warrington Guardian:

Mike Lomax, club director, said the club was determined to work more closely with the amateur teams in the town.

A parade of junior teams was held at half time during the Wolves first home game of the season with Salford earlier this month.

Mike said: "We really want to be working more with our amateur clubs. My son played for Latchford Albion in the same team as Kallum Watkins so I know how thriving it is."

Woolston Rovers Greens under sevens, who beat Latchford in their final game on Saturday will take on the Culcheth Eagles.

Crosfields in Great Sankey will take on Woolston in the under eights final.

While it will be Latchford Albion lining up against Culcheth Eagles in the under nines.

The youngsters will be getting their shirts for the big day at a presentation night at David Lloyd in Great Sankey tomorrow, Wednesday from Wolves forwards Ben Westwood and Ashton Sims.
