Lymm 25 Wirral 31

A LAST-MINUTE try from Lymm was not enough to salvage anything from a poor display against Wirral in the National League Three North on Saturday.

Wirral got off the mark with a converted try and Lymm responded via a penalty off the boot of Cormac Nolan.

From the restart, Lymm struggled to clear the ball and gave away another penalty which allowed the visitors to regain their seven-point lead.

Wirral increased their lead in controversial fashion when a try was given to the away side despite questions being asked about the grounding, which saw Lymm receive a yellow card for dissent.

The hosts pegged replied through an Andy Rowley try but it was cancelled out before half time when Wirral added another.

Jordan Widdrington led the Lymm rally early in the second half with his try from a line out, followed by a Sion Williams score.

The comeback faltered when Wirral crossed to push them beyond reach.

A last minute try by Widdrington gained Lymm two bonus points but the hosts missed out on victory.
