NOT even an All-Star performance from Warrington Wolves’ goalkeeper could stop Team GB slumping to three defeats at the weekend.

Former Culcheth High School student Alex Bradley was named in the All Star team at the men’s under 21s World Championships qualifying event.

Wolves teammates Stephen Clarke, Liam Welsby and Morgan Gillet also featured in the Team GB squad, but it proved a disappointing three days at Medway Park in Kent.

Team GB suffered defeats to Group Three European qualifiers opponents Israel, Hungary and the Netherlands.

GB’s first game saw them take on Israel, with the visitors running out winners 24-18.

However, Wolves goalkeeper Bradley had an outstanding match, including saving a penalty before keeping out the follow-up shot.

The following day Hungary, many people’s pre-tournament favourites, provided the opposition.

GB found it tough going as they lost 14-37. Thomas Tysland of Norwegian club side Runar was the stand-out player for GB with four goals.

The British team rounded off their matches with a clash against the Netherlands. Despite a brave performance they found the Dutch too good as they lost 14-46.
