WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s Nick Jones won the January Merseyvend Halewood 5k on Saturday.

The experienced runner was the first to cross the finish line in 16mins5secs and was followed by two more Warrington athletes.

Dave Tomkins finished in 35th place and was the first over 65s in 21mins53secs, while Neville Jones came home in 71st place and was the first over 75s runner in 34mins23secs.

The Ribble Valley 10k road race was also held on Sunday, December 28, at Clitheroe and incorporated the Northern Championships.

Warrington Athletics Club’s Andy Green finished in 27th place in a time of 32mins21secs to win the over 50s age group and was followed home by his brother Graham Green in 60th place in 34mins8secs, who took second place in the over 45s age group.

Graham’s son Adam Green also ran, crossing in 135th place in 37mins29secs.

Warrington Athletics Club’s Matt Wigelsworth competed in the Merseyside Cross Country Championships held at Sherdley Park in St Helens on Saturday.

Wigelsworth finished in fifth place in the under 20s men’s race with a time of 27mins56secs.
