BRADSHAW Lane pupil Ashley Nemits scooped the Warrington Athletics Schools Cross Country League crown at Walton Hall Gardens.

Nemits was a convincing winner in the primary girls’ event, followed by Appleton Thorn’s Maya Evans and Old Hall’s Molly Wormald.

James Kelly, of St Wilfrid’s, won the boys’, while Mackenzie Show, of Outrington, and Moore’s Joe Entwistle took second and third.

Bridgewater boasted the top two in the minor girls’ category, with Becki Shingler taking the title from schoolmate Olivia Foreman, while Great Sankey’s Isabelle Brownlow rounded off the top three.

Another Bridgewater student, Harry Baty, won the boys’ event from Helsby’s Owen James and Great Sankey’s Joseph Weston.

At junior level, Isabelle Trevithick continued Bridgewater’s form with a first place, followed by teammate Jess Sholl and Great Sankey’s Megan Atherton.

Great Sankey filled the podium in the boys’ junior event, with Spencer Rudd leading from Matt Slavin and Jack Staniform.

In the intermediate age group, Olivia Bush, of Bridgewater, won from her teammate Rachel McQuillan.

WARRINGTON enjoyed two winners and a team victory in the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Boggart Hole Clough on Saturday.

Nemits built on her schools success and victory in the previous round by winning the under 11 girls’ race in 7mins 32secs, shortly followed by fifth-placed Evans in 7mins 38secs and 11th-placed Wormald in 7mins 56secs to help the girls win the team event.

In the under 13s boys’ race, Jordan Jones secured victory in 13mins 30secs, while in the under 15s Dan Fox claimed eighth spot in 17mins 42secs.

MATT Wigelsworth stormed to a convincing victory in the Merseyven Halewood 5k road race.

The under 20s runner smashed his personal best by 33 seconds with 15mins 44secs to lead in former GB marathon international Andy Green, second in 16mins 31secs to win the over 50s age group.

Under 13s runner Sam Evans took 16 seconds of his PB to finish fifth in 17mins 12secs. Dave Tomkins, 21mins 52secs, and Neville Jones, 35mins 53secs completed Warrington’s involvement.
